Glass artist, Peggy Stewart, will
be at work in our studio creating and sculpting her beautiful
works of art. Come and see how she creates these fabulous works, and
find out the history of each piece. In addition, come and see the
PLASMA FUSION GLASS, a
process that Ms. Stewart created. Only here will you see the Plasma
Fusion process. In addition, our workshops offer some other exciting
possibilities:
COMBING HOT GLASS. This is
a fantastic and
exciting process. The glass is heated to 1650 degrees. Ms
Stewart then reaches into the kiln, and "stirs &
combs" the hot molten glass. This creates a very exciting &
unique glass art work.
SANDCARVING GLASS
TWIST, TURN
& VITROGRAPH.
This process involves a unique process
to create beautiful one-of-a-kind glass, using some unusual methods.
Using some very usual household objects! By the way, the pictures
above were taken after
the glass process was completed. They stand just as
you see here.

What an incredible class!
Thank you to Cheryl, Ryan, Mike & Michelle. They endured a fast
paced wonderful class June. Cheryl, Mike & Ryan came from
the beautiful California coast to work with Peggy. Look for
some incredible art to be created by this family! Welcome back
Michelle. This group of students created so many glass works,
that were above and beyond. Fusing, etching, sandblasting, working
with frit and inclusions. And more...........................
Here is a peek at their beautiful work.

SO
MUCH HAS BEEN HAPPENING, WE HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO WRITE IT ALL
DOWN! During the last 60 days, we
have had students from all over the world studying with us. We have
had private classes, small groups and a few large SPECIAL
classes. Our 5/1-5/3 class was a HUGE success, with 10 very
talented students. We had students from France, Ottowa Canada,
Argentina & The Phillipines!
We also
entertained special programs with students from Wired Designs from
San Antonio. It has been incredibly exciting, and never enough
time in the day to take a breath! See pictures on our "CLASS
PICTURES" page.

WOW!
That is all I can say. We just finished an
intensive multi-day study program for several students. I am
sincerely amazed by their creations. You HAVE got to see their work
(and more coming to our pages soon). Cheryl & Tom,
WOW! Tom came all the way from Nebraska to study here, and we
loved having him join us. We had such talent in the room, it was
incredible. LOTS of fun too!

In the past few months, Peggy Stewart has been
blessed with several wonderful opportunities to exhibit and show her
glass art. She was a Showcased guest artist at the
Thunderbird - Carefree Fine Arts & Wine Festival. One of
three featured artists, sponsored by Dv8 Gallery in Carefree.
The only glass artist invited to be featured (and invited) in this
wonderful and talented group of women. Her glass art can also
now be found at galleries in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Palm Desert,
Savannah, Northern California.
DURING the same weekend, Peggy
was part of the Emerging Artist Exhibit & Show at Heritiage
Square (downtown Phoenix, cultural area). 15 artists were
selected to participate. Again, congratulations
Peggy.Since the shows, she has been
inundated with requests for her beautiful new "GlassHopper Fusion
Glass".
In case you don't
know, DGH teaches the most innovative & cutting edge
classes available ANYWHERE. We offer programs that you will
not find elsewhere. We have some of the most talented,
experienced, and trained teachers available anywhere. Why
travel around the world, when you have the best right
here?
FUN............AND LOTS OF
IT
The GREAT
International Magnet Exchange, 2003 - 120 glass artists from all
over the world participated in the 2nd annual International
Exchange. Come and see our collection of glass magnets from
artists across the earth, as well as some VERY well known
names! We participated in this project as a team, involving
high school students, local artists, and ourselves. A great &
fun project! Some of them came from Norway, New Zealand,
England, and even Iceland! It IS a tradition to exchange
magnets (like Olympic athletes with country pins) with other glass
artists!

5/20/03: A FANTASTIC class with
Melissa Paxton (HGTV Modern Master, and Master of the
Southwest). Probably the most popular class to date (in the
fusing room). Reviews coming in just a few days, from the students
who attended the class. All I can say is "wow". So many
new & unique processes, that Melissa created herself. Make
sure to check out both our pictures pages, so you can see for
yourself the fantastic work created by her and the
students!

By the way,
look on our "Pictures Page" for more of our work. We also do custom
glass work, see the "Links" page for more info. We are
fast becoming the test pilots of glass. Our group has figured
more ways to comb glass, and manipulate glass in the kiln. Poked,
stretched, twisted, rolled, maneuvered, and more. Many great
inventions. Twisted glass rolled in micas, fused, fired, twisted and
then fired again. And we keep fired up (literally). See some of our
combed glass on the "pictures" page. The beautiful glasswork
continues to amaze us all. Gorgeous, beautiful work. AND unlike
ANYTHING any of us have ever seen before! POTMELTS that are
from the world beyond. The studio keeps on going & growing
wonderfully. And what a treat it is for all of us to work
along side such talented students..

2/25/03: FUSING & KILN FORMED
GLASS: By the way - check out Patty Gray's website
(link from our "links" page). Under "Arizona Classes" you will find
loads of pictures of this wonderful class! We finished our
first MAJOR fusing class! Our 4 day class with Patty Gray
& Tony Smith was spectacular! More than we could have ever
asked for. No boundaries is what I call it. They make a
fabulous teaching duo.
Special thank you to our sponsors and contributors who helped us:
Spectrum Glass, Uroboros Glass, Lincoln Distributors.
They inspired everyone in the
class. In addition to those attending the class, we had
several local high school students join us for a day (or
more). They got to work along side all the wonderful and
talented artists that were in the class. Thanks to everyone in
the class for their help, inspiration, and guidance. Some of
these students were Advanced Placement Art students, some were
At-Risk kids. They each went away inspired and excited. We
will post on the site some of the finished projects that EVERYONE
(including students) made.
Nate Kastellic was our student
scholarship winner. Nate was given a full scholarship to
attend the four day class. Nate is a Senior at Cactus Shadows
High School, and is hoping to study photography in college. Other
students participating: Charlie, Eletta, Paul, Seb, Ellen
& Lisa.
Projects: One of the most
interesting parts of this class, was that we learned (shall I say
"re-learned") new tricks on old methods. No limits - pushing
beyond anywhere we had gone before, with totally new methods of
working with the glass. Along with cutting edge new ideas, the
absolute best technical advice and teaching (Tony is an Engineer
working for MIT - doesn't get much more technical than that).
Lots of easy to understand information - yet allowing us to push WAY
past the normal limits we have been using in the past.
GLASS COMBING. Of course, this is Patty's signature
style. Not only did we get to watch her comb a large glass
piece, EACH student got to comb their own work of art. From
beginning to end, each student learned the steps to make these
unique and truly beautiful works of art. Talk about
breathtaking. We had everything from zebra to Caribbean
colors. Can't wait to see how these pieces are worked into
final projects. a SPECTACULAR project to watch. Nothing
is dull about reaching into a kiln at 1650 degrees, and stirring the
glass! Using stainless steel rods, dydidium glasses, hot
gloves, and protective clothing. WOW!
Vitrograph stringers &
more. How about vitrograph molding, braiding, twisting,
shaping! This was just one of the smaller projects we
did. The Glass Box. A fabulous way to work deep, and to
create gorgeous tiles. Thick glass work, layered with many
ideas. Metals, mesh, stringers, dichroics, anything and
everything (do I hear kitchen sink here?). And the box is JUST the
beginning...............................
Just think where it goes from here! The Loose Pattern Bar. A great
twist on the old pattern bar. And MUCH easier. We created some
incredible projects. With SO many projects to come from this. Watch
for work to come - to be posted on our site.Metals, foils, mesh, and
more. I didn't know there were SO many infinite possibilities.
And very interesting, is the colors you can get while working with
the metals in deep glass work. We had some very beautiful pieces
come from this project. Every type of silver, gold, copper - we
worked with it all.
Micas, & Paints. Talk
about a different approach to an old
subject! Not limited to just painting or airbrushing, we
worked with methods of applying these products in WAYS mother never
taught us! Again, WOW! Advanced
Coldworking. We learned how to give our work that fabulous
professional finish. ABOVE AND BEYOND normal
methods. Using Lap wheels, wet belt sanders, saws, tile saws,
grinders, drill presses, and more. I am becoming a SERIOUS
tool junkie! I am skipping the clothes shopping and heading
straight for the tool section now! Safety too - learned much
about how to make my studio and glasswork safer for all.Twisting,
turning, pulling, pushing: we did things to the glass that
mother would NEVER have allowed. Have to see Tony's Pony for
proof! Beautiful kiln formed bracelets. Free form glass
sculpture. Molds, reliefs, inclusions. Again,
an old topic - but with some VERY interesting new ideas.
Completely different methods of achieving some incredible "new"
designs. Far above & beyond anything I have seen
previously. Gold leaf & foil, frits, and more - used in
ways we never would have tried before. Spectacular results. The
theme here was "go where no man has gone before".AND THE KITCHEN
SINK: We had multiple sandblasters going. We
did some incredible work with carving, blasting, etching.
We used the lap wheel to bevel, tile saw to create beautiful work
from our pattern bars, torches, you name it. I can't believe
we got this much done in such a short time. And none
of our glass art will ever be the same.
PATTY & TONY have said that they want
to come back and teach a class for us this fall, or next
spring. We hope to make this an annual event.
